Boston, MA, April 8, 2024 – MedTechVets, a leading non-profit organization dedicated to supporting military veterans in transitioning into careers in the medical technology sector, proudly announces the appointment of Steve Mapa as its new President and Executive Director, effective April 1, 2024.
“Steve Mapa’s appointment marks an exciting new chapter for MedTechVets. He is a talented and dedicated professional and veteran. Under his leadership, we are confident that MedTechVets will further expand in its impact in the lives of veterans and help recruit and equip the next generation of leaders for the MedTech industry,” said Patrice Sutherland, Chair of MedTechVets.
“With an extensive background in both military service and corporate leadership, Steve brings over 20 years of experience to his new role at MedTechVets. I have worked with Steve and know him to be an ideal leader that will guide our organization forward,” said Michael Minogue, Founder and Chair of Governance Committee of MedTechVets.
Prior to joining MedTechVets, Steve held sales and leadership roles at Abiomed and GE Healthcare. At Abiomed, Steve filled many roles over the last 19 years assisting the growth and success of the innovation and people that created the field of heart recovery. His leadership also helped to improve the care for patients and develop his teams. Most recently, Steve served as a Regional Sales Director, leading the sales division in the Northeast. His expertise in cultivating talent and driving execution will be instrumental in advancing the mission to help transitioning veterans serve a purpose greater than themselves in the MedTech industry.
“At AdvaMed, we are proud of our partnership with MedTechVets, which does incredible work helping to transition our nation’s heroes on the battlefield into lifelong careers in the medical technology field,” said Scott Whitaker, President and CEO of AdvaMed, the Medtech Association. “We look forward to working with Steve to help expand this great organization’s reach even further, as medtech companies find tremendous value in hiring veterans who have demonstrated teamwork and tenacity in their service to our country.”
Steve also served as an Armor Officer and Platoon leader in the U.S. Army, where he earned
multiple distinctions including Bronze Star and Meritorious Service Medals for his service in
Operation Desert Storm. He received his B.S. in Engineering Management from the United States
Military Academy at West Point.
In his new capacity, Steve will be responsible for developing strategic partnerships, expanding
outreach programs, recruiting top talent, and enhancing career development opportunities for
veterans.
“I am honored to join MedTechVets,” said Steve Mapa. “Having personally experienced the
challenges of transitioning from military service to civilian life, I am deeply passionate about
supporting fellow veterans in their career journeys. The MedTech industry has been a blessing in my life, and it is now my time to give back and help mentor those exiting the military with an interest in continuing to serve others. This is what MedTech is all about. I look forward to leveraging my experience to strengthen the mission and serve those that have served our nation.”
