Interest in diagnosing, treating, and preventing widespread diseases has shot up since COVID-19. We predict to see an increase in job openings for specific specialties in Biotech. The Projections
According to a 2019 U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the demand for clinical laboratory technologists and technicians will increase 7% from 2019 to 2029, “faster than the average for all occupations.” Biomedical Engineers, Biomanufacturing Specialists, and Biological/Clinical Technicians are among the top 10 in-demand careers in the field, says Shayna Joubert from Northeastern University. Many of these specialties are projected to grow 7-13% in the next six years.
As interest in developing better medical devices pique, so does the need for medical device sales managers. Despite the USBLS reporting a slight decrease in Sales-related occupations, they reported that salespeople in “wholesale and service sectors” will continue to be in demand. This is because they remain crucial to “building and maintaining customer bases for businesses.”
Getting Started
So how do you even get started? For one, narrow down a specialty. The occupations within biotechnology range from product innovation and business development, to project management, clinical lab technicians, and supply chain management or logistics. If you’re looking for an entry or mid-level job, think of companies you’re interested in working for. Then, find professionals at your desired job level or higher to network with. Ask to grab a small chunk of their time and ask questions about their career path.
