SEP 28th– We were proud to interview MedTechVet Academy Mentor, Grant Cox. Grant is currently the Vice President of Operations at Z Construction.
He recently was going through the Fire Academy in Greenville, SC to become a Firefighter, but was medically released after having surgery on both of his hips.Grant is a huge believer in medicine and believes that better days are ahead of him.
What led you to become a mentor for MedTechVets?
I spoke with Derrick Herrera one day and immediately wanted to be a part of MedTechVets. To be able to give back to the brave men and women that serve and protect our country is the least
that I could do.
I wanted to help veterans transition into an industry that they could become passionate about. I wanted to be a part of helping each and every single one of them find a new home that held the
purpose that all of our veterans are looking for. Helping them connect with leaders in the industry has been so fulfilling and I am so grateful to be a part of MedTechVets.
What has your mentorship journey with MedTechVets been like?
My journey has been amazing. I have enjoyed the interactions, zoom calls and getting to know my mentee’s on a personal level and doing everything that I can to put them in the best position to be successful. I am excited to continue this journey and make an impact on each person I come in contact with!
Any advice for veterans?
First of all, thank you to every single one of you. My only advice would be to never give up. If you do not get your first job in a medical device that you applied for, stay positive, keep
networking and I promise you, something even better will work for you. Every single one of you has something incredible to give in this industry, never forget that!
What are your key takeaways from being a mentor?
Key takeaways for me is constant communication. I love staying in touch with my mentee’s as we are on this journey together. I always tell them to do their due diligence on companies, different routes that you can take within the medical device industry and decide what is best for you. Where they have been in their life will only help them in this industry.
What does the future look like for you? Do you have any exciting trips planned?
I am focused on becoming healthy. That is the main priority right now! I plan on continuing to work hard in my MBA that I will be graduating with in the New Year! Family vacation is coming up
in August so we are all very excited for that.
Anything else you’d like to share?
You define who you are. I always tell me mentee’s that if they do not get the first job that they applied for, to understand that it is that company’s loss and to keep your head held high, always.
You will land on your feet somewhere and you will be appreciated. That goes for everyone!
Wishing everyone that reads this health, success and prosperity for the rest of 2023.
